My Crazy Morning

I had an interview set up for a 3 month consulting position this morning at 11. Google Maps told me it would take me about 24 minutes to get there. I actually left home at about 10 to take into account that the trip would probably take longer than Google told me and that I’d have to find parking too.

Lucky for me I had my trusty GPS in the car. Though I had to take a few minutes to fix the window mount before I left it came in handy when one of the roads I had to go on was closed for construction. The alternate road it sent me on had construction issues as well so it sent me on a third route.

After about 35 minutes the GPS told me I had arrived but I couldn’t find the building. I took one lap around the block before deciding to park and continue on foot so I could get a closer look.

I asked a few different people on the street where the building was (including a police officer) but each one gave me different directions. After walking what felt like 3 miles (and feeling very unsafe), I looked at my watch and noticed that it was already 11. I called the recruiter I was working with in a panic. After talking for a few minutes it turned out that I was right across the street from the building. I had passed it at least 4 times while I was looking for it but there is no indication of the address on the building.

So now I’m 10 minutes late. I go into the building and sign in at the security desk. Just as I sign in the fire alarm rings. They were having a fire drill and the building was being evacuated. So I left the building with everyone else.

Half an hour later people start going into the building and so do I. By the time I meet the person who’s supposed to be interviewing me it’s already 11:45. We had a nice conversation for about half an hour and that was it.

I left the office, paid the parking lot attendant ($13!) and was on my way home. Even with the GPS I made a few wrong turns (one by accident because the roads were weird and two on purpose to avoid traffic). It took over an hour to get home!

Anyway, we’ll have to wait and see if they want me for the job.
