Add To Facebook Bug Fixed
A few weeks ago I asked for help in fixing a bug I was experiencing where there was some kind of conflict between WP-GenericFooter Plugin and Add To Facebook Plugin. It seems that both couldn’t be used at the same time. During the development of the new Share on Facebook plugin I figured out what was going on and fixed the bug.
The Share plugin is based on the same code as the Add plugin. So when I was testing the options for Share I ran into the same conflict. It seemed that whenever I would set the options for Share the options for Footer would be nulled. But when I would save the options for Footer the options for Share would be nulled. The same thing was happening between Add and Footer. Obviously there was something wrong with the code I was using to save options. Then it hit me.
Just as Share was based on Add, Add was based on Footer. The plugins are essentially doing the same thing (adding text to the end of a post) so there was no reason to rewrite the basic code. Turns out that since all three plugins had the same underlying code they also shared the same mechanism for saving options. So when I saved options for one of them the options for the others were being saved at the same time. The fix was simply to rename the function calls for saving the options. Once I did that the problem disappeared.
The fix is built into version 1.0 of Share and has been added to version 1.4.3 of Add. Footer will be updated if I ever get around to do other updates to it.

A user of the Add To Facebook plugin asked if there was a way to make the plugin submit a post/page to Facebook as a link instead of in the Mini-Feed. After a little research I was able to put together the Share on Facebook plugin. It works exactly the same as the Add To Facebook from the blogger’s standpoint but uses Facebook’s Share Partners scripts to add links to Facebook instead of the code I cobbled together for the Mini-Feed.
Share on Facebook adds a link to the bottom of each post and page on your blog with the text “Share on Facebook”, Facebook icon, both or the Facebook share button depending on what you choose on the Options page. Alternately, you can add the link anywhere within your theme using a template tag.
For more information go to the Share on Facebook page.

Intel versus nVidia
Hulu rethinks everything. Americans conducted 13.5 billion online searches in January. Intel suing nVidia. nVidia says the cpu business of Intel’s is decaying. Pirate Bay guys joking around on stand. Gmail goes offline. A winner. Space junk story never ends. Geneva Motor Show shows baby Rolls. Google sued again. I mock dumb slow news day stories.

Should I Give Up Trying To Make Things Better?
I’ve been working on this project for two months and have gotten very frustrated with the lack of communication regarding the specs for the software I’m supposed to be testing. Even more frustrating is the fact that this software is the backbone of the company’s business. You’d figure that since they felt it was important enough to bring in a QA person they’d feel it equally important to give the QA person what they needed to actually test the application. If you figured that you’d have figured wrong. (How many more times can I write the word “figured”?)
My frustrations with this situation (and others related to this assignment) has boiled over to the point where some of my email inquiries have included a certain amount of acid talk. This led to one of the higher ups in the development hierarchy to have a little talk with me in which I was told that this is the way it has always been here and I should give up any hopes of changing the culture.
Though I said the right things to defuse the situation I couldn’t believe my ears. I don’t care how long things have been done improperly. As a company if you’re giving up hope on fixing them then things will never improve and you’ll never get the better people who have come here to stay for long. It’s a situation that’s doomed for long term failure. Fristrating.

$100 Netbook Coming?
Facebook remains in the news for its terms of service. National Academy of Sciences says USA forensics stinks. Flash on iPhone still a controversy. What’s a Selphy printer? MSFT kills its EQUIPT program. Never heard of it in the first place. Coming soon, the $100 Netbook. Judge throws out privacy suit against Google. Average age of first phone owners in UK is eight-years-old. Cripes!
