Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty
Microsoft has announced that it’s going to extend the warranty on the Xbox 360 and implement some design changes for future manufacturing of the product as a result of the product suffering from a significant amount of hardware failures. The warranties will be extended to 3 years from the date of purchase.
Microsoft, who also said sales of the game consoles fell short of their 12 million target in it’s fiscal year ending June 300 (it only sold 11.5 million), will take a hit of over $1 billion dollars over the extended warranties and will also compensate Xbox 360 owners who have had to pay for repairs that will now be covered by the extended warranties.
The move was announced to Xbox360 users in an open letter from Peter Moore, Microsoft’s vice president of the Entertainment & Devices Division.
