Pre Puts Palm Back In The Game
The big news at last weeks Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was Palm’s keynote in which they announced their new operating system, called WebOS, and the first device built on that platform, the Pre. The pundits are abuzz about whether this is an iPhone killer or not. It certainly looks like a variation on the iPhone idea that does some things better but other things not as well.
I’ve always been a Palm fan but while this puts Palm back in the game the Pre is not the iPhone killer some make it out to be. There are other iPhone competitors and this puts Palm in their company. But the iPhone has some things going for it that none of the competitors do. The main thing it has going for it is that it’s identified with the iPod and iTunes. That gives it more visibility in the marketplace and is a big reason for it’s market share dominance.
